ELITE SANDWICH ALERT: The Croque Monsieur

INGREDIENTS

-4 slices white bread

-4 slices good quality ham

-4 oz of gruyere cheese

FOR THE BECHAMEL 

-1/4 cup parmesan cheese 

-2 Tbsp Butter

-2 Tbsp flour

-1 cup whole milk 

-Salt & pepper

METHOD

-Place a saucepan on med heat, add in butter and flour

-Stir until combined, and allow roux to cook for about 3 minutes

-Slowly whisk in milk, don't worry if it starts to clump up at first

-Add in milk until sauce is smooth and thick

-Add salt and pepper & grate in parm cheese

-Place a pan on med heat and melt butter for toasting bread

-Lay in white bread and spread each side with bechamel sauce 

-Top with ham and cheese, once both sides are toasted close sandwich and top with more gruyere cheese

-Broil on high for 3 mins or until cheese is bubbling and golden
